ABOUT US
Calamity Films was founded in 2013 by David Livingstone, formerly Head of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution at Working Title Films. With a career spent collaborating with acclaimed filmmakers including the Coen Brothers, Richard Curtis, David Fincher, Edgar Wright, Joe Wright, and Paul Greengrass, it was a natural step into film and television production. The new Calamity Films had a clear vision: to create smart, distinctive, and commercially successful projects.
Calamity’s debut feature, Pride (for Pathé Films), was both a critical and commercial triumph, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival to widespread acclaim. It received three BAFTA nominations, including Best British Film, and won the Queer Palm at Cannes Film Festival, celebrating its powerful blend of humour, activism, and heart. David Livingstone and writer Stephen Beresford were awarded the BAFTA for Outstanding Debut.
The company’s second feature, Judy, starring Renée Zellweger, captured a poignant snapshot of Judy Garland’s time in London. The film garnered widespread acclaim, with Zellweger winning every major acting award of the season — including the BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Academy Award for Best Actress.
Last Christmas, a festive romantic comedy inspired by the music of George Michael and Wham!, was co-written by Emma Thompson and directed by Paul Feig. Starring Emilia Clarke, Emma Thompson, and Henry Golding, the film became a global box office hit, grossing over $120 million worldwide and securing its place as a modern holiday favourite.
For the past seven years, Calamity has produced Brassic for Sky – the broadcaster’s most successful scripted series to date – spanning seven seasons and fifty episodes. The series won the Royal Television Society’s inaugural award for Best Comedy Drama.
Calamity are currently developing Pride the Musical, alongside a bold and diverse slate of new television and film projects.
